The mural paintings from Saint Catherine’s Chapel were removed, between 1927 and 1933, using the strappo system. This is a technique developed in Italy that makes it possible to remove the film of paint from the wall by way of pieces of cloth glued to the surface, and to transfer it to a new support, in order to turn the decoration that was part of the building into a mobile transportable object. The restorer from Bergamo Franco Steffanoni, with the help of two collaborators, introduced this technique to Catalonia at the beginning of the 20th century. It would seem that one of these helpers, Arturo Cividini, a restorer who worked for much of his life between Catalonia and Majorca, carried out the removal and transferral of the La Seu d’Urgell cycle.
