Les pintures murals de la capella de santa Caterina es van arrencar, entre els anys 1927 i 1933, amb el sistema de l’strappo: una tècnica desenvolupada a Itàlia que permet extreure la pel·lícula pictòrica del mur, mitjançant teles encolades a la superfície, i traspassar-la a un nou suport per convertir la decoració que formava part de l’edifici en un objecte moble transportable.
El restaurador de Bèrgam Franco Steffanoni, amb l’ajut de dos col·laboradors, va introduir aquesta tècnica a Catalunya a inicis del segle XX. Sembla que un d’aquests ajudants, Arturo Cividini, restaurador que va exercir gran part de la seva carrera professional entre Catalunya i Mallorca, va executar l’arrencament i traspàs del cicle de la Seu d’Urgell.
